Preconception nutrition

It is now widely accepted that the health of the mother and father and thus the quality of the egg and sperm can have an impact not only on the chances of conception but on the success of the pregnancy, the health of the embryo and that of the baby once he or she is born. More and more research is now revealing that the health of the parents, even before conception, can dictate the health of their child as they grow into adulthood and their risk of developing certain chronic conditions as they age.

The food you are eating today can have an impact on the quality of your egg and sperm in three months’ time as this is the length of time it takes them to develop and mature. I work with you during this time and provide up-to-date nutritional advice based on the latest research so you understand how to optimise your health and chances of fertility.

Problems conceiving?

Perhaps you have been trying to conceive for a while now and would like to find out more about how nutrition can help your chances of conception?

Research and experience demonstrate that targeted nutritional and lifestyle strategies can play a vital role in improving fertility. The following conditions are known to have an impact on a woman’s fertility:

  • PCOS
  • Endometriosis
  • Fibroids
  • Obesity
  •  Adrenal exhaustion caused by chronic stress

If you are experiencing any of the conditions listed above I will work with you to create a bespoke nutrition and lifestyle strategy which is specifically designed to fit your health requirements.

Every person is an individual. Every person has a different genetic make-up, environment, lifestyle and diet. No two people with the same health condition will have developed it for the same reasons and thus the nutritional strategy I design is tailor-made to fit the individual demands of each client.

Take PCOS for example, the nutritional strategy designed will vary depending on why the condition has developed in the first place and the factors that are allowing it to persist in the body. There are many factors which may play a role in the development of PCOS, for example it has a very strong genetic link, so a person may be more prone to developing it if they have a close relative who has it, it is strongly linked to obesity due to the higher risk of insulin resistance, chronic stress can play a major role due to the effect of cortisol on sex hormone balance and lack of exercise and poor nutrient status may also contribute.

Considering these factors, among others, nutritional protocols will be tailor-made to fit your health history and may include strategies to help balance your blood sugar levels, control inflammation, correct nutrient deficiencies, mediate cortisol levels and regulate hormones.

I may suggest specific diagnostic tests in order to inform my nutritional recommendations. Such tests may help to reveal underlying hormonal imbalance, adrenal imbalance or nutrient deficiencies which may be contributing to poor health and fertility.
